  3. In early January a new species of bird was found in the Borneo rainforest. The bird is a flowerpecker, a small, gray bird. It hasn't been given a scientific name yet because so little is known about it. Richard Webster, a biologist at Leeds University, was the one who discovered it. But Dr. David Edwards, an ecologist at the University of Leeds was the one who identified it as a new species.

  13. Two house-cat-sized primates called Titi monkeys were discovered in the central/south central Amazon. The new species will enhance our understanding of primates which will give insight to ourselves since primates are so closely related to humans. This also indicates that the Amazon is brimming with flora and fauna yet to be discovered!

  21. Dendrelaphis kopsteini is just one of the 123 new species found in the Borneo rainforest since 2007: It is a snake that has an almost flame-like neck colouration that gradually fuses into a vivid blue, green and brown pattern. When threatened it flares its nape, revealing bright orange colors.

  23. Researchers from the Wildlife Conservation Society turned up a brand-new monkey species in northwestern Brazil earlier this year. The tiny (less than 3/4-pound, or 340-gram) Mura’s saddleback tamarin (Saguinus fuscicollis) was discovered living in the Purus and Madeira river basins in the Brazilian state of Amazonas. The primate is already considered to be under threat by development in its rainforest habitat.

  26. In the rainforest of "In the heart of Borneo", the worlds longest insect has been found. This stick insect is 22 inches long, and was only one of the 123 new creatures discovered in Borneo during an 85,000 square mile conservation area set up in 2007.
This insect lives in high canopies, and is known as Phobaeticus chani. This was all found by the World Wildlife Fund. A few other creatures that were found are; a flying frog that can glide for 15 yards, and a slug that fires love darts laced with hormones at its mate.

  27. In the Amazon rainforest, an ancient city was found which researchers believe might be linked with the "Cloud People of Peru" which was a white-skinned tribe that was killed off by a disease in the 16th century. I thought it was pretty cool that they found a "city" that's hella old & once had people living there.

  28. in a Brazilian rain forest a group of scientisits discovered 40 different species of plants and animals. I am in complete shock that there is still that much in the rain forests that we still haven't found. of the 40 new species a tree rat and a new bird were found. this is a great find for the scientists because those are rare animal groups to find new species in. I also learned that the scientists had to hide from the hungry jungle cats that found them. The group had to hide in a hollow tree and fight off the dangerous jungle cat. I find this very extrodanary that scientists such as these ones risk there lives in order to discover new things to help our human race better understand what is out there. these scientists should be rewarded a nobel prize for this great awww.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and.../article655469.ecechievement.

The animal that I picked that was found recently, was a snake that is named as the white lipped keelback. Obviously a carnivore it feasts on frogs and small fish, and lives near streams and rivers. This snake was found around september 27, 2007.

Many paleontologists discovered that there are some dinosaurs that lived in the Amazon Forest and only in that region. It helped paleontologists discover the evolution in our planets history. anthropologists use the amazon forest region to understand indigenous culture, life style and the use it to understand how the humans arrived in the Americas.

Over 40 new species were discovered in the amazon rainforest-including that of plants and animals. It was described as a "scientists heaven" as a particular location in the forest served to be the finding space for a majority of the discovries. When news like this is heard, it can only motivate a person to think that if discoveries of this magnitude and quantity are occuring all in one are in a few select instances, how much life is there out there that has not yet been discovered. It is exciting to believe that although we find that the knowledge we all possess today to be groundbreaking compared to the past-it makes us realize that we too one day will be part of the past and that generations to come will have so many new findings that will change not only the culture of science but of overall society.

The global conservation group World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has called for protecting the threatened species and equatorial rain forest on Borneo, the South China Sea island that is the world's third-largest and is shared by Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.

In 2008 off the Australian island of Tasmania scientists have discovered a rainforest of the deep containing 274 different species of fish, mollusks and more. One of these Australian said we might know more about the surface of Mars than the depths of the oceans on our own planet! This made me think that I cant imagine what all is hiding in our oceans waiting for us to discover them. Also on this site were some picture of the new species, one being a Marginaster seastar. It looks so cool.
