Looking at the three types of forest cutting which do you think is the most efficient for not only the forest but for mankind as well? Strip Cutting Selective Cutting Shelterwood Cutting
Selection cutting it is not recognized by everyone as a valid silvicultural term since it does not define the objectives of cutting, such as, to improve the quality of trees in the residual stand or for the purposes of regenerating the stand (also known as The term, selection or selective cutting means nothing more or less than the fact that someone has designated trees for harvest.
I think selective cutting is best for the environment and mankind. Strip and Shelterwood cutting take out a huge space from trees but selective cutting allows some of the trees to stay where they are and try to keep the old forest going.
I think selective cutting is the best thing for the forest aroud us because they only come through and cut different trees every ten to twenty years. Strip cutting isn't good since it is taking big strips out of the forest leaving big space behind and shelterwood cutting isn't good either because they are cutting more trees down then they are keeping in the forest. Also selectives cutting allows the trees to reach full maturity
I think that selective is the best for the enviroment because it keeps much of the stability left after logging unlike clear cutting that can make the soil unstable, but but clear cutting and strip cutting are more efficent for productions of wood products
Selective cutting is definitely the best one because its more of a forest cleanup than a logging project. Many trees are left behind and these trees will be able to grow to their full potential because they wont have to fight for needed resources. Also, the larger and more mature trees will be able to produce more trees over time.
I think selective cutting is the best for the enviroment. As long as the loggers pick the right trees to cut, like the older one, the forest will remain in a good state. By cutting down the older tree's, this makes space for new growth to happen.
I think that selective cutting is the most efficient, not only does it give mankind the resources that we need, but it also allows for the trees to grow by giving them more space to grow, also it doesn't take away the biodiversity because you don't completely eliminate the species.
In my opinion selective cutting is better for the environment and mankind. It allows the trees to reach full maturity before cutting them. It is better to wait ten to twenty years so that the environment has time to alter.
I think strip cutting is the most effective for both mankind and preserving nature. It allows biodiversity while still giving trees time to mature again instead of just wiping them out all at once. It doesnt just single out on e species such as selective cutting does and therefore allows a lot more diversity.
Selective cutting because it allows trees to reach maturity before cutting them down and leaving enough room for us to plant the trees that you are required by law to plant .
I think selective cutting is the best choice for both man and nature because it allows old trees to be removed and giving the newer tress bigger areas. This is a great method because when they remove an old tree the usually replace it with 2 or more new ones in its place.
I think Shelterwood is the best type. It causes less damage than clearcutting and the ground is never bare. That's all I have, I don't know/care much about the cutting of trees. I have heard though that bamboo grows really fast so I'd rather suggest that. Anyway, shelterwood just seemed right when I compared it to the other ones I my notes. Plus it almost gives the trees somewhat of a family like thing. You cut the trees so it shelters other trees which is making nature more personal and maybe making people care more about cutting down trees. I really don't know.
I think that selective cutting is best because it doesnt neccessarily hurt the environment and sometimes helps by cleaning it up a little. Even though the other two or more productive in getting wood i think not hurting the environment is the better choice.
I think that selective cutting is by far the best option. Instead of taking out huge areas with many trees all at once, it leaves the healthy, mature trees behind to continue growing. Leaving these trees behind also makes replanting later on significantly easier.
I think Selective Cutting is the best. Only the older trees are taken down instead of the ones that are still growing. That way the ones that are still growing have time to finish growing so you can grow more trees! It's also better than the take two leave one cutting method.
Selective cutting is obviously the best choice for the environment, but it will never be a valid source of cutting from lumber industries because it is not efficient. With this style you cannot go and mow down one large area, you go from spot to spot, it takes much more time, therefor it will likely never be commonly used. In this era, its all about the green, therefor it will always be the latter of the choices
By using Selective cutting the amount of wood wasted is reduced, and saved. Certain countries who cut down anything and everything are on the fast track of losing their land fertility. By using this Selective cutting technique we reduce the chances of the land fertility dying off as well.
Selective cutting is better for mankind and for the forest, because with selective cutting you can select what trees get cut down or maybe just trimmed down, but for every tree you cut down you have to plant one back.........
I believe that selective cutting is the best choice of efficency for both the forest and mankind. This method of cutting is the best way to keep old trees from falling over and rotting on the ground and bringing in newer trees for the newer generations.
In my opinion selective cutting is without doubt the most effective way to preserve the environment while providing a stable source of lumber for the people. By only cutting select trees and leaving the younger trees to grow for later logging. And at the same time replacing each tree cut with several more. It is a very stable sounding system.
By just looking at the pictures, the first one, strip cutting looks most efficient because for mankind its probably easiest. You cut a bit line in the middle of the forest. And also for mankind i think its good because if a wild fire were to start there would be a big gap between the two sections of the woods so the other half wouldn't catch on fire
I think selective cutting is the best way for logging.loggers can select which trees to cut down and decide which trees are older and therefore can be cut down.
I think that the most efficient way is to strip cutting because you aren't taking a whole bunch of tree's out at once. You are just taking one little strip and this way you aren't messing with animals habitats.
I think that selective cutting is the most productive form of logging while still alowing the ecosystem to continue. since not all of the trees are cut down it allows an old growth forrest to form which helps prevent larger forest fires since their branches are above the fire level
i think selective tree cutting is the most efficient way to both forests and mankind because, if we use selective cutting we can only like cut down all the older trees instead of taking down all the younger ones where they can continue to grow and we can just use all the old trees for whatever we may need that specific trees would for so i say we should just use selective wood cutting out of the three types of wood cutting.
I think selective cutting is the best way for both mankind and the forest. With selective cutting you only cut down the trees that you need, and you don't cut down too many. This works for both mankind and nature, because a lot of trees will be saved.
The selective cut is the best in my opinion. Its better for the nature and human because not all the trees are removed by once, just around 20%,and the rest is retained. And the cycle goes every 10 or 20 years.
I think that the strip cutting method is the most effective for both the enviorment and humans. My main reasoning for this is that stip cutting is a very quick process and does not disturb a huge amount of enviroment such as selective, or shelterwood.
I think that selective cutting is the best and most beneficial for the environment. Forests take a long time to "bounce back" after a hefty reduction and with the 10-20 year rotation it gives the forest time to recuperate. Other methods of cutting don't allow adequate time for regrowth which harms the forest no matter how many new trees you plant.
Selective because it benefits the enviorment and also helps prewvent forest fires. It clears out the forests and it allows to have other trees planted and also for the others trees to mature just right.
In my opinion, selective cutting is best both for the environment and for mankind. The title itself tells you that this method allows people to decide which trees should be cut and which should stay. This way we can take out only the trees that are harming the forests or that we need and still leave a stable environment for the forest to survive.
Between the three types of cutting, strip cutting is the best. Strio cutting is the best because is leaves the trees there but it reduces the risk of fire. In turn this helps both the forest and man.
I think that strip cutting is the best. It doesn't make the the logger have to go thru a forest and just pick out the good trees. It's the best for man and nature.Dylan Steege
Shelterwood cutting has less of a shoke on the forest, and we benefit by getting lumber. Since the cutting occurs every 15-30 years the forest has time to recover. We benefit from shelterwood cutting because we take the big trees and leave the smaller trees to increase in value, and size. Over all I would say shelterwood cutting is the most efficient type of cutting.
I believe that selective cutting is the best for this environment for many different reasons. One being, selective cutting for the loggers as well. Selective cutting is best for mankind as well.
I think that selective cutting is the best because we only take the ones we need and not jest cut them all down. it also helps keep the soil good such as holding water, keeps from land slides, and helps the new growth of trees.
I would have to say selective, because its easier for everybody and the environment. Strip cutting is bad becaause that just clears everything out at once. And by doing selective you can cut down the ones and then plant some seeds so then you have new ones growing after you just took some down. It doesn't affect the animals as much as striip cutting does..
I don't see why the method of cutting even matters. Logging companies are required to replant 3 trees for every one they cut down. If that's not overkill in itself, i don't know what is.
But for the sake of the argument, I would have to say that selective cutting is the most environmentally favored option because it allows for the remaining trees to have a higher chance of survival because of the lack of competition.
I believe that Shelterwood Harvesting is the most beneficial to our environment because it leaves trees while still making sure that the spread of fires is at an all time low.
i think that selective would be the better one because when they log they are still leaving some trees and allowing some of the old trees to still live. and when they log they plant more trees. strip cutting is the best method in my opinion
I believe that Selective Cutting is the most efficient or best for humans and nature. I believe this because it is the least disruptive type of cutting. Only a few mature trees are taken out on a 10 to 20 year rotation. That is good for the environment because some trees are animals habitat and the more trees they have the better it is. This is good for humans because more trees means more oxygen for us.
i think selective cutting is better for the enviorment and mind kind because it dosent just take big strips of it it selects the ones it needs leaving some behinde to keep the forest healthy..Esperanza
I believe that when looking at the most beneficial type of cutting for a ecosystem, selective cutting would be best because when you selective cut you leave part of the old growth in the forest and maintain old habitats. In my mind it's better than cutting a whole section apart and destroying everything in it's way.
Selective cutting is a good method of logging because it leaves behind trees so the ecosystem isn't disturbed too much. It also provides us with a good supply of wood.
i think tat selective cutting is the most efficient way of cutting because you aren't just taking out a species completely. i think that its very important that selective cutting is the way cutting is done because clear cutting and strip cutting are very harmful to the soil and species of the tree
I think that strip cutting is the best because it doesn't deplete the soil and it helps more trees to grow back. Unlike selective cutting which kills up to 40% of the trees around it.
I agree that strip cutting is the best and then replanting trees afterwards. Some types of cutting wipe out an entire forest. It makes it hard for trees to grow back and for an ecosystem to thrive. strip cutting makes it so ecosystems are easier to survive.
I think shelter wood cutting is the best for the fact that it isn't completely taking all of the trees out of one area. It leaves some there for animals to still be able to take shelter in. Jed Hendrickson-per1
I believe selective cutting is the best of the three. It laves trees, and room for them to drop seeds and grow new trees around them. With humans still getting the timber they need. Nicolai Luce Per.1
