As we look at predator prey relationships we can see coevolution happening. Last week when we played Hide and Seek and or Sharks vs. Minnows there were many strategies that were used to avoid being caught. You need to write 2 paragraphs. In the first talk about your strategies you used playing the game (or if you were not there how you would have played). In the second paragraph talk about how coevolution takes place.

  2. The tactics I used in the sharks and minnows games is that I used my Superior speed against the bigger and more lazy predators. This tactic worked out for me until near the end of the game.
In co-evolution is when a prey learns how to out do the predator in any fashion that keep it alive. Then what happens is that the predator figures out a way to pass the prey's defense.

  3. i am really good at staying out of people reaches and very good at dodging. i would use my flexibility and speed to out do my opponent. i would also stay within a large group so that i would less likely to get tagged.
co-evolution takes place were the prey keeps up with the predator. it also allows the prey to stay within the food chain .

  4. When I played Sharks and Minnows my strategy was to let a group of people bolt ahead before I ran across because that way the "sharks" were focused on catching those people and I could spot a safe route to other side away from the "sharks."

Co-evolution occurs when a prey learns the methods of a predator and changes their behavior to avoid being caught and eaten. Once the prey change their behaviors the predator in turn must also change his methods of catching this prey. And their behaviors and ways of life change around each other continuously like that.

  5. As the first predator, i first tried the method of catching the fastest boy in class to be on my side. When this failed however, i changed my tactics to following the mass until i had several 'sharks' on my side.
As a minnow, my best tactic was to run after someone had faked out a shark on the other side. The moment the sharks looked to the other side of the line, i bolted and weaved inbetween them until i was safe.
Co-evolution takes place when the predator learns how to get past the prey's defenses, the the pray must also evolve or learn new methods of evading the 'new and improved' predator.

  6. In hide and seek I would use my small stature and flexibility to hide in uncommon and difficult to find places. In sharks and minnows I would stay in the large group and use speen and agility to escape the sharks.

Coevolution is an arms race between predator and prey. The predator catches on to the prey's tricks, so the prey now has to learn new tactics. This cycle goes on as the two evolve together.

  7. In sharks and minnows I would usually run first which drew a lot of attention but then everyone else would go so that i wasn't a point of interest any more. Also when there were only two minnows left me
and another person i just waited for them to go and get caught.

Coevolution takes place when the prey learns how to outwit the predator and the predator has to adapt so that it can eat but the prey doesn't want to be eaten so once more it has to adapt and so on.

  8. I used a couple different strategies when palying sharks and minnows, like when everbody else ran as a group I would try to separate myself when the attention was on the group. This only worked when there was a group though.Coevolution takes place when the prey learns ways how to out run the predator. So the predator has to evole to try catch the prey.

  9. I didnt stay in a group I was only with one other girl we didn't like to hid as well as we could have. We hid behind a tree and bushes. then we hid behind a building. When the predator found us we tried to run but he was too fast, so eventually we gave up and let him tag us.
The co evolution is that the prey is able to run away from the predator the predator has to be evole and be faster. Or if the prey is able to hid well enough to not be found the predator has to find a way to become a better hunter.

  10. I went to any erea no one else hid because I figured that the predator would want to search in a high prey populated area so they could find many people at the same time. So i ran over by the dug out and started to look around. The first thing i noticed was a tall fence covered in thick vines. I thought that if I could just get be hind it no one could see me. that was a little harder then I thought but eventually I was able to wedge my self between the branches and the fence and was completely covered.
Several Predators passed me and even looked right at me but they couldnt see me. So the next round knowing that spot had worked and knowing no one had noticed me coming out of it I returned there and it held true to my therory I was never found.

  12. When we played hide and seek I found a place to hide and I got found and I didn't run so I got tagged. If we played hide and seek I would find good places to hide and I would try to get away. Coevolution is when you try to find a place to hide and so you run so you won't get hunted.

When we played Sharks and Minnows my strategy was to let other minnows run first, so that the sharks would go after them individually. I was less likely to get tagged when I was running with a group. You didn't want to be the last one either.
Coevolution happens when the prey develope just as many escape techniques as the predator developes hunting techniques. As one learns to adapt and improve, the other improves also to survive.

  14. When we played sharks and minnows I had two strategies. One was to dodge and run with clusters of people. My other was to sprint when I got closer to the free zone. My strategy for sprinting did not work, as I was soon wrapped around a pole.

Coevolution is when prey develops several methods of escape to avoid predators. The predators then develop just as many techniques for finding and capturing prey. This cycle continues.

  15. Although there were many different tactics being used one that my group particularly used allot was speed. When we had our 2 minutes to go and hide we'd run as far as possible and then stop in the best spot we could find that would be unseen to others or make us unseen. So two strategies used in my group was speed to run away from what would be known as our "predator" and hiding in spots that would be unacknowledged by the seeker or thought of as a place that no one could even get to. The last major strategy was size. How was it we used size?In the case of the hiding place my group hid in we had to adjust our size to fit into a small area that had a big open space as well. Our tactics: size, speed, and hiding.
At the point when co-evolution takes place is the point when the prey discovers it's actions changing to better itself. In many ways this could related to a situation when a kid is being kidnapped. When placed in a situation that requires you giving it your all many people get the strength they never even knew they had. The same is in Co-evolution when the prey has to get away from a predator they get the strength to push on in ways that they never even knew they could. Co-evolution in a since is the changing of one's actions into something of defense and tactics of the greatest survival means.

  16. When playing sharks and minnows it was usually a better idea to go for the obvious weaker predator. When doing that it was easier to get around that person and safely to the other side while the other sharks were to far away to notice and when they did were to late to stop it.
co-evolution takes place when a prey has to learn new techniques to outmaneuver or escape the predator. When this happens the predator must learn and find new ways to capture it's prey, and so goes the cycle of co-evolution.

  17. When we played hide and seek first period, the first round I played as a prey. Well, I hid in some tall grass and I guess it was a good choice because just being quiet nobody noticed me even though both predators seemed to have spotted me. As a predator, we moved as a group and we moved fast. The faster we could move the more people we spotted and us predators found a majority of the people hiding.
Coevolution is the tatics used between the prey and predator. If the prey is faster than the preadtor; the predator can adapt to become more stealthier or can move on to slower prey. But then the slower prey could easily adapt to being hunted by that predator and could find new methods to escape.

  18. When we played hide and seek we ran as fast as we could to places we knew no one would look, when we got there we were silent and held completely still. Animals do the same thing, its seems as if they know where to hide from predators. We also went to an area where there wasnt anyone else hiding. The prey seemed to focus on finding people in large groups and they didnt bother with one or two prey out of their way.
Coevolution happens when either the prey has to adapt to getting away from the predator as quickly as possible or predator has to adapt to the prey to run faster so it can survive.

  19. When we played hide and go seek and shark and minos, i usually ran when everybody else did so there was more attention to other people then me. And you are more likely to get caught running in the middle other then the sides.

Coevolution happens when the predator has to work harder to get the prey and if the predator is not getting the prey it has to work more strategies to get the prey, then the prey would have to work harder too.

  20. The strategies that i used in sharks and minnows was to wait until a few people went ahead of me, and once the sharks started going for those people I would run the opposite direction, thus getting away. Co evolution occurs because the prey has to adapt to surviving and the prey has to adapt to be able to catch the prey.

  21. In playing hide and seek the strategies I used were hiding in places no one would think of, being quiet, and still. Even though I didn't like where I hid the second time because it was dark and I'm positive there was spiders, it was still better than being eaten. Another thing is it's not always to your best advantage to hide in large groups. There's always someone who is the loud mouth and gives you away. Also, it's hard to find a place that will hide that many people. But it can also be good because you're less likely to be eaten.

Coevolution is when predators and prey influence each other's evolution. For example, some butterflies have evolved to have the ability to store poisonous chemicals from the food plants they eat as catepillars, and thus becoming untasteful. In the game after playing one game the prey have seen how people hide or what worked best and they evolved what they hid in. This made it harder to find people because they already had one game under their belt to help them survive.

Coevolution is when the predator and prey influence the way that the other hunts or fights back from eating or being eaten

  23. When playing hide and seek, the strategy I used was hiding in places that the predators could not find. By this, the predators were not able to get to the spots I was at and that became my best move. Also hiding alone made myself more aware and able to adapt tp my surroundings without any distractions. Where predators can't find you, you are more likely to survive.

Coevolution, is when the prey find better ways to hide and allude predators, it is the way predators have to adapt to that, and find a new, better, more efficient way of hunting and being able to catch the prey.

  24. As we played hide and go seek i hid in a tree because most people were not hiding very well and just stood behind the buildings. When we played sharks and minnows I would pick the person that looked slower than some of the other ones around them and run by them.

Coevolution is how prey adapts to the pressures of the prey. While we were playing some kids would just walk across like they were the predator instead of the prey and it worked very well until there got to be not very much prey left.

    ReplyDelete
  25. when playing sharks &&minnows, i would run after everyone else started running, then that way not all the attention was on one person. I would even walk, cause the shark was way on the other side of the field.

  26. I was not there when you played Hide and Seek but I think I would hide in places you can not see in the first moment or just adapt to the color of my clothes. Probably I would make myself as little as possible. There are many different thing you can do: if you are a good climber, hide on a tree, which is even better if the predator is not good at climbing. Or if you are small and thin you can hide somewhere the predator can't reach you because he's too big.

Coevolution takes place when the prey finds better ways to hide so the predator has to adapt and find better ways to catch the prey too. Then it gets harder for the prey again because the predator adapted. So both, prey and predator, have to imrove their skills and adapt.

  27. In the game Sharks and Minnows,we were told to use strategies to avoid being caught. My strategy was to wait patiently and let other minnows go first. That way the sharks would go after them and I would be less likely to get caught. Being in a group is much easier because its harder for the sharks to go after all the minnows.Less sharks means higher chances of minnows surviving and as the opposite more sharks means lower chance of minnows surviving.
My strategy in being a shark was to go after the weaker ones.
Coevolution takes place when the preys learn how to avoid predators. Preys come up with ways to avoid just as predators come up with ways to hunt preys.

  28. When playing hide and go seek my tactics were not hiding with a big group of people and trying to stay completly out of view. Normaly I would have tried to run away from the predator but it was too cold outside.
Coevolution is when the prey gets smarter or adapts to new stratagies to keep from being eaten. Therefore, the predator has to adapt to be able to catch the prey.

When we played Hide and Seek the first time I hid behind a tree and That didn't work so well because i was wearing bright red. The second time we played i hid behind a building that was red and they didn't find me as quickly even though one of the predators ran past me twice. I tried using camouflage as my second tactic.

Coevolution takes place when the prey or predator get better at catching or running away and hiding or fighting and the one that hasn't gotten better needs to so they evolve and change to fit their needs.

  30. the tactics i used for this activity is i waited until all the sharks were consumed in chasing the others then just make my run for it and then just act like one of them it works everytime. coevolution is when the prey or pedator get better at hunting or hiding until one goes extint.

  31. As we played hide and seek I was the prey. I teamed up with another person. I climbed in the tree to hide as he stayed at the bottom. Using me as a lookout I could tell him which direction the predator was coming from so he could adjust his position to not be seen. This also helped me as well, because if he was found they would stop looking in that area. I was depending on the leaves of the tree to hide me from plain sight for extra help. Despite these ingenious tactics I was found anyway. I guess black pants don't belong in trees.

Coevolution is where both the predator and the prey both evolve and create new tactics to avoid and or eat each other.

  35. In the hide and seek game we played, my strategy to stay safe from the predators was to group up with a few other prey... Grouping up helped us to work together to find hiding spots, but we were not exactly stealthy.

  36. In hide and seek, my strategy was to remain in large groups and lesson my chance of being tagged. I also tried moving slowly so I can remain a target that is harder to spot. The predator is more likely to attack prey that are running faster, by themselves, or prey that are the first ones to leave there pack.

Coevolution is where prey change it's tactic and strategies in order to remain alive or get more food and avoid predators.

  37. The tactics I used in the game “Sharks and minnows” is I used the numbers to my advantage, because there were so many prey as the game first started, the goal is to be unnoticed and let the predator focus on something else. As the game slowly progressed to the number of prey and predator were the same, or even more predators then prey. The only tactic was to run as fast as you can, and try to dodge and run again and again.
Co-evolution is the learning of behavior a predator observes of the prey and the prey observes of the predator and trying to surpass each other to survive. The predator needs to evolve to catch prey while the prey needs to evolve to survive and prevent being caught.

When we played hide and seek i use a few techniques. The first one was i tried to go out as far as possible. it didnt work to good. The second was crouching in some bushes. It probely would of worked better if i wasn't wearing a bright shirt. but thats all we played.

coevalution is occuring because prey finds new ways to hide and get away but yet at the same time predators are getting the prey still.

  43. When we palyed sharks and minnows my technique was to hide in a place where nobody else was.
