Pictured above are Rachel Carson and Teddy Roosevelt with John Muir. Which of their conservation efforts do you most associate yourself with and why? To review the efforts are Utilitarian Conservation (Roosevelt and Pinchot) Biocentric Preservation (John Muir) and Modern Conservation (Rachel Carson)
I associate myself with Teddy Roosevelt because of his views on how we should preserve wildlife and natural resources to be able to use them for our good. I feel that we should use the natural resources that we need yet replacing them to use again later. I think it is ridiculous for people to put saving the rain forest or something along those lines before other human beings needs. We need to use resources responsibly.

Both Carson and Roosevelt had very different ideas, Carson's being mostly about the impact of chemicals on living species and Roosevelt's mainly focusing on housng and jobs for the people. I believe I associate more with Roosevelt's idea more because he is looking out for the people along with the forrests, providing jobs for people working in the forrest and protection of the forrest at the same time. Roosevelt's idea doesn't specifically say anything about the affects of chemicals, but with people working in the forrests I'm sure that they were aware of those things also.

I associate myself the most with Roosevelt's idea because I feel that it is necessary for humans to use the resources around them but it's also important to preserve them at the same time so other generations can use them and we don;t kill off the earth. I also believe in certain aspects of Carson's effort.
ReplyDeleteI would say I am most like Roosevelt, because I do not feel it would do us much good to not use the resources we have. However, it is very important for us to preserve our resources as well. It is definitely important to save portions of our earth, in areas like National Parks, so we do not turn the world into a huge wasteland. But, I do not feel we would thrive if we did not use our resources. I just believe in moderation!
ReplyDeleteFantastic web site. Lots of useful information here. I am sending it to a few friends ans also sharing in delicious. And certainly, thanks for your sweat! Patek Philippe Calatrava

I am most like Roosevelt because I beilieve that we need to use the resources that we have but we need to use them in moderation. We have national forrest and other protected parts of the nation that cannot be touched by humans. Sometimes our harvesting actually helps the forrests.

I feel like I am more like Teddy Roosevelt because the natural resources were put here for a reason. But we should not use it all up at once and give our future generations any thing at all.
ReplyDeleteCarlton Per.2
I agree more with Rachel Carson because organisms in this world have rights too. Who is to say that we "matter" more than the things around us? Also, I admire the fact that she not only believed in protecting human/environmental health, but that she did something about it by testifying to congress about new policies.
ReplyDelete-Anna Bruner Period 1
Biocentric Conservation is important because it envolves coexisting and allows organisms to live freely. Humans and animals should each be able to inhabit a home on this planet without stunted growth and extinction. In order for this conservation method to work efficiently, humans must learn they can survive comfortably without putting a dangerous strain on other organisms and their habitats.

I think I am most like Roosevelt because although I think sometimes people overuse the resources around them, it would be pointless for us not to take advantage of them. Areas of the world need to be kept untouched by humans because if not it would kill many species of plants and animals.
ReplyDeleteI think i associate myself more with rachel carson because she awakened the public to our threats.Yes, they were put here for a reason but not to take advantge of the things we have. Not to over use them to the point were we'll run in a matter of years. Eventualy everythin will run out.She awakened us to the reality.

I associate myself more with Roosevelt because I feel that humans do need a big part of the environments natural resources. Also, Roosevelt's ideas on conservation helped to get people jobs in forestry and helping to protect some of our indigenous wildlife as well as preserving some of our natural resources.
ReplyDeleteI associat myselfe most with roosevelts becaue we are a big part of the environment we effect it it almost everything we do and building of he national parks also put a lot of people to work and that was needed at the time
ReplyDeleteJed matthews
Utilitarian. I agree with this.because I am a proud supporter of Teddy Roosevelt. I believe that nature is ours to use and preserve. So if for every tree we cut down down we plant more
ReplyDeleteSkyler hunt
I associate myself with teddy roosevelts conservation method because I like national parks! Also nature is a great thing and we should enjoy it. Being outside is the best thing!!!
ReplyDeleteFab!!!! Period 3
I associate myself more on the situations concerning Teddy Roosevelt's Ideas which he put into action. I associate myself with this for the reason of me being a firm believer in what we have is ours and we should use it for our benefit.
ReplyDeleteI associate myself mostly with Teddy Roosevelt's theory because in my opinion, we should use the resources the nature is giving us, but not overuse them. Also, all the national parks that were built are very important to keep certain areas and animals untouched. They are a great accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI associate myself more with Roosevelt and Muir because i think we should care for the nature we have and not destroy it. I also think that the national parks that they decided to establish were a great idea because they are conserving the enviorment.
ReplyDeleteI believe that nature is there to provide for us but after watching the human footprint we are kind of taking it for granted we need the trees for our oxygen. If we cut them all we have no oxygen which means we will die

I agree with Roosevelt. It's good to set up preserves, but that doesn't mean we have to stop using resources completely. We can use what we need, just make sure that you leave new or recycled stuff for others, now and in the future.
ReplyDelete-Nicolai Luce
I associate myself with Teddy Roosevelt's conservation efforts. I think that it is really important to preserve the natural beauties of the world like national parks, because they are crucial to the circle of life... It is good to set boundaries to prevent an overly-un natural world.
ReplyDeleteI agree with utilitarian conservation because to me that everything on earth has a purpose and the utilitarian conservation to me makes the most sense because we would not be able to support the growing population without resources but thinking of the future we also need to replace these renewable resources as we go along in using. Everything in the world needs to be balanced we take away how many and we need to replace by how many. Sometimes all balance comes from some simple algebra
ReplyDeleteElizabeth p.3
I think I am more like Roosevelt and pinchot. I agree with the way they put natural resourcs for good use. I meant why not take advantae of the natural resources that the universe provides us. Also the National Parks and conservation parts are great too. Not only we should appreciate it but the future generation should as well.
ReplyDeleteI personally agree with Roosevelt and Muir because we should keep nature natural yet use it for our IMPORTANT needs and not just destroy it.

ReplyDeleteI agree with utilitarianism. We need resources to live, but I think if you use a resource we need to do our best that its her for more years to come. If you cut down 5 trees then you should plant 10 more. I also believe in modern conservation. We need to becareful and not pullute things. Our air, water, and land is being poluted. If we don't make changes there will be a long lasting effect on the earth.
I think im more like Roosevelt because i think we all need the natural resources and if we run out of them we would be pretty screwed. But we keep on killing our land, trees, and plants so i think we need to be more Conservative.
ReplyDeleteI think Rachel Carson because we need modern conservation as we have decent resources, but still need to keep it good so it won't affect our environment.
ReplyDeleteRie Kumar P.3
I associate myself more with Roosevelt because I believe. That we should use the resources that we have around us and that we should also perserve them and not waste them. We need conservation because if we just use up all the resourses we have then we are going to have none left to use.
ReplyDeletePeriod 3 Amy Desbrow
I think that we should use our natural resources for our needs that we have now. But we need to be wide on how much we use or consider replacing the resources with more for future generations because they need it to.

ReplyDeleteI associate with roosevelt because we should save the resources we have because we are using more than we can produce.
Personally, I associate myself with Roosevelt. Seeing as he's the man who started the national park system, how could you not like him?

I associate myself with teddy roosevelts conservation, i like national parks and believe they are needed while being a nice addition to the planet - Elijah halverson per. 2
ReplyDeleteI associate myself with Roosevelt, I agree that there should be National Forests, it's important to preserve nature not just for beauty and because the forests give animals a place to live, but also because we live here and we should take care of the earth and treat it like if it is a human being, so that generations to come can enjoy fresh air and so that the earth lives for a very very long time.
ReplyDelete-Melissa Vazquez Per.3
I associate myself with Roosevelt because it's important for humans to preserve the resources we have around us, because it's important for future generations to be able to live here.

I think I associate myself more with Roosevelt because I think its important to the environment and the people to preserve the resoursed that we have so that in the future others will be able to live here as well. -Josh McGovern Per. 1

ReplyDeleteI associate myself with Roosevelt because while it's important to preserve our resources around us we also need to use our natural resources. We can easily watch how much we use and make sure we have enough for the future. If we weren't meant to use our resources we wouldn't have any.
I agree with both Roosevelt and Carson. The resources around us should be available to us to use but not so much so that the environment is destroyed. We should also be aware of the chemicals and pollutants let loose in the environment because we have no idea what could be affected. Nature should be of use to us but it shouldn't be abused. That's why conservation is important.
ReplyDeleteJosh H. 3rd period
I think both. Because not only do we need to preserve wildlife for jobs, homes, and resources, but in order to help conserve the needed wildlife we need to focus on reducing our human pollution.
ReplyDelete-Amelia Haack
I agree with John Muir because nature is a beautiful factor in this world and we should keep it how it is. Let the animals defend for themselves. Nature is something we take for granted, and I think we should take in how amazing it really is.
ReplyDeleteNatalia, period 2
I agree a little more with John Muir because I like the nature a lot and conserving all the aspects in contains is really important. Changing it is something in which I think it isn't meant to happen.
ReplyDeleteI like John Muir's idea of nature is there for itself, not to be messed with, not for jobs, etc. I think it should be left alone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Roosevelt that resources should be used in moderation, like anything. Nothing should be used excessively. I think establishing National Parks was a great idea because if they hadn't saved that land, it would be developed into commercial or domestic use by now.
ReplyDeleteBecca Moore, per. 1
I associate myself more with Teddy Roosevelt mainly because he was big on land conservation and is the reason for our National Parks. I have visited many National Parks and i think they're a beautiful thing and i am happy that generations after me we be able to enjoy them to.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Utilitarian Conservation (Roosevelt and Pinchot) the most. I believe that it's good to preserve our forests not only for it's beauty and tourism, but it also supplies us with a sustainable renewable resource.
ReplyDelete~Jed Hendrickson
I agree with Teddy Roosevelt because we do need to protect land so we have it in the future. I also agree with his plan to preserve national forest because if we keep cutting down and destroying them, we won't have them in future generations.
ReplyDeleteSarrah Pardon
I agree with Roosevelt, because I think we should use our resources as they are here for us anyway. Yet I don't agree with wasting, we need to save and protect the land for our children.
ReplyDeleteNicole Period 1
Team Roosevelt. Our resources are here for us to use them. We need our resourcees and if we weren't supposed to use them they wouldn't be here. Also, wwe need to keep our land clean by not littering and we need to stop polluting the air.. or we won't have all the resources that we so desperately need.
ReplyDeleteCasey Endacott p.2
I associate myself with Theodore rosevelt because of how he feels about preserving wildlife. Also we need natural resources to survive.
