There has been a 40% increase in populations within towns larger than 50,000 over the last 50 years. This has come with a 40% decrease in smaller towns like ours. What do you think the advantages and disadvantages of city living might be and would you consider living in a larger city?

  1. Advantages: I think that living in a city where everything is close together can somewhat help the environment. Because of the close proximity of everything, people are walking everywhere which cuts down on carbon dioxide pollution from gas. Also, there is everything you want in cities with great variety. If you want a coffee shop, you have approximately 847,528,584.6 options in a place like New York. Another advantage, you are always meeting new people which allows you to experience diversity. Disadvantages: In way overpopulated cities, it is overly crowded and takes eons to get somewhere. Also, with high population, consumer demand increases and businesses try to make the highest amount of profit, which causes them to import products rather than sell American made products. Another disadvantage is never being alone which can make people cranky and eventually become naturally mean. But, if the city was not too big, i would definitely consider living there as long as there was room to breathe. Morgan P.2

  2. Advantages of living in a larger city include opportunities that are only possible in such environments, especially in the job market, and all shopping can be done without the need to leave your general area. Disadvantages would be dealing with traffic at all hours, a lot of noise, and a certain insecurity stemming from mistrust of the multitude of strangers around you. I would certianly consider living in a city because I love the atmosphere that accompanies the city. ~DB

  4. There are so many more Advantages of lIving in a largely populated area. There are more opportunities for the work force and there are better stores. With bigger cities the education us better to. However there are many disadvantages to. There's is more pollution and over crowding. Crime goes up and there's always the fear of being involved in crimes . And with big cities there's always sounds if construction or cars driving. They are good and bad things about living in big cities.

  5. There are lots of advantages to living in a bigger city such as; more job opportunities, diversity, better shopping/food, more things to do etc. There are also some major disadvantages like higher crime rates, traffic, and noise. I personally would rather live in a larger city because there is always stuff going on and you can meet a lot more people.

  6. I definitely think there are many advantages and reasons to live in a medium to larger size city. Cities have lots of culture and a lot going on, so naturally that means bad things too. In proportion to the advantages in any city there will be negatives, such as crowdedness, expensive cost of living, and pollution. In a smaller town there is less people and therefore less crime, but also meaning less activities and opportunity. Living in a city gives a person much more insight and sense of self-awareness for their surroundings, whereas someone who grew up in a small town may be more naive to the culture there is in the world.

  7. Some advantages to living in a largely populated environment would be the abundance of diversity, job opportunities, a larger pool of people to surround oneself with, and a smaller chance of being truly bored. Some disadvantages would be the pollution, cost of living, crime, and the lesser chance of knowing the people you pass on the street. I would consider living in a big city because I enjoy anonymity.

  8. Personally I would not want to live in a larger city because of a few things. One, traffic would be horrible in a large city and what comes with all those cars? Carbon dioxide, which is not only bad for the environment but is also poisonous to our bodies. Second, everything is so much more expensive than Amazon. Third, if you were to work in a large building you probably would work in a cubical which has been proven to put a lot more stress on the human mind which can lead to people going crazy and then they get a gun and kill people, not very good. Forth, let's say a plague broke out you would have a significant higher chance of catching it than living in a small city. But the pro would be that everything you would want could be around the block.

  9. There are many advantages about living in a city. There would be a larger amount of different types of jobs, more jobs available, and there is a widely diverse set of people that you could meet. But unfortunately it would be a disadvantage due to pollution of the city, criminal activity, how expensive it would be to live in a nice home in the city, and just being overpopulated. I think another disadvantage is that since there are so many people you would never meet and know everyone. In a small town if you live their long enough you begin to know everyone and create a relationship with people. I would not mind living in a city just because it would be exciting, but I would prefer a town that doesn't have so much crime. So yes, I would consider living in a big city.

  10. Living in a large city has its pros and cons but so does anywhere else you live. Living In a large city could be very beneficial to younger people who are having troubles finding jobs, with so many things to do finding one could be far easier for someone with out experience. A long with the benefits of a job it would be easier to find a nice place to live and since traffic would be bad it would encourage many of us to walk or take a bike places saving us money on gas and car insurance. Although it could be beneficial living in a large city I enjoy places like Klamath Falls. I like not having to fight for parking spots or having the fear of large gangs in my neighborhood like many larger places do. Caleb Carlton Per.2

  11. Living in a larger or small city both have their ups and downs. While living in a big city you might experience a lot more activities, better shopping, better food options, and much more. The city life is also much faster and more modernized than smaller towns. But living in a bigger city isn't always better too. It is much more competitive in everything. Such as schools, parking, jobs and many other things, Although there are many more opportunities is is harder to attain them unless you are the best of the best. being said all this there are many things to consider about living in a smaller city as well. It really depends on what kind of things you want in your home town.

  12. I feel that there are a lot of advantages to living in a larger city, the biggest probably being cultural and social. You definitely have higher chances of meeting people and there would be a lot more risk of disease and sickness when you meet more people. As for smaller towns would probably have a higher chance of building closer relationships to a majority of the people in the town. As for me I would rather live in a medium to larger sized city, because the city life fits well with the career path I have in mind for myself. I also very much appreciate the social aspect of bigger cities as well as the business and transportation options that they offer.

  13. Big cities~ in big cities there are more stores you have access to. You are able.to have better oppertunities for jobs and could have better schooling for your children.
Small cities~ in small cities, there isnt as much traffic around. You dont have to.worry about being late.to work from traffic and it doesnt cost you as much money to go to the store from gas or transportation. Schools are closer by and you can live closer to your friends.

  14. Living in a large city has good and bad issues. Some good things are the availability of goods and generally lower prices. Large cities tend to also have better education programs and more opportunities for sports. Some bad with large cities are the higher crime rates and larger drug problems. It is easier to get into trouble in a large city than a small town. I would not want to live in a large city. I could live on the outskirts of a large town or an hour away from a large city, but never in the city.

  15. Some advantages of city living is having more opportunities and a larger variety of jobs, schooling, and recreational activities. You can find almost any activity in a large city, and make an abundance of connections and friendships. However, the disadvantages are present as well. The commute most people go through just to get to work or school in a large city almost deters me alone. You have to wait in traffic for hours to get to work and then again to get home, where in a small town like ours it only takes around fifteen minutes to half an hour to get anywhere in town, even with 'heavy' traffic. There's also a clearly higher percentage of pollution in large cities than in small towns. It's also possible to gain even more connections in a small town simply by knowing the whole town. I would definitely consider living in a large city, mostly because it would be a change from what I've grown up with, but also because it would open my world to a million new opportunities, including things I haven't even thought of.

  16. I think that the advantages of living in a large city are quite limited. Personally I don't like big cities, but I know that it does come with good things. For instance, the diversity is great and can help expand your knowledge of culture and different people. Another up side is that you have a large wide or selections to go anywhere! The possibilities are endless! There are down sides. One could be that it's just crowded! Because of all the cars and stuff people result to walking, which is good, but the amount of cars and pollution is still very high.

  17. I think that the advantages of living in the city is that there are more thing to do like sight seeing and there are malls and small hobby shops, more resturants, and there are more people so it creates more opportunities to find people you can identify yourself with. The disadvantages to living in a city are not only ecological but they also affect how people go about their day if you live in a big city you more than likely have to wake up earlier to make a long commute to work, most things you do will require a long commute and to top it off traffic will be crazy. The pollution in the air will wreck havoc on your respiratory system over time and most cities are very far from any type of forests so it will be hard to go do any outdoor activities. I would consider living in a big city most likely one relativly close to the countryside but only because I grew up in a city but when I lived out in the country It kinda grew on me.

  18. There are many advantages and disadvantages to loving in a large city. Most of the advantages are economical advantages such as job opportunities and accessibility. Big cities are made to be easily livable and support a large population. Struggling people may find work easier in such a city. Disadvantages include smog, inflation, crime rates, traffic, and overcrowding. Priscilla Robirds p.2

  20. There are many advantages and many disadvantages to living in a larger city. The main advantage is that everything is super close together, meaning you don't have to drive to get to work, restaurants, and even grocery shopping. Another advantage is that having more shops leads to more jobs, and less unemployment. There are several disadvantages, though. The main disadvantage is that the cost of living is way higher in a big city than in a small town. You could pay up to $500,000 for a very small house that could have costed you $100,000 in a small town. The crime rate is also way higher in bigger cities due to there being more people. The air quality is pretty crummy in the big cities as well. And of course, my least favorite is that the traffic is HORRIBLE. Traveling anywhere would take 10x longer. I probably would not want to live in a larger city because I can not handle slow drivers and crowds of people.

  21. Living in a bigger city would mean a larger diversity in culture. The amount of things available to do and find is much more vast. However smaller cities offer more mom and pop business, a closer connection to people and neighbors, and to some, a safer atmosphere. Bigger cities seem like more of a party. A chaotic party with a big pinata. Smaller cities are like a friendly get together with your friends, and everyone brings there favorite dish. Personally I'd consider living in a larger city. Unless I had children. They'd run away from me in a big crowd and then what can you do after that. Aye

  22. I would absolutely hate to live in a big city. They're dirty and scary. People are my worst fear and I'd rather live in a small town where I know everyone and can trust them. I don't understand why anyone would want to live in a big city. I mean, I understand there is more fun things to do, but there is also more danger. I love Klamath Falls. Although everyone is on meth and that is super sketch, I really believe it's a beautiful place. I never run out of fun things to do in this town so there is no need for me to ever move to a bigger city.. Maybe a smaller, cuter one though :) That would be fun. I love little towns.

  23. Living in a larger city will typically mean more job opportunity, a wider variety of consumer goods, and a larger range of recreational activities. However, there are disadvantages to city living such as higher traffic, increased pollution, and higher overall cost of living. I, personally, would consider living in a larger city because I enjoy being able to have a wide range of things to do with my spare time. This includes going to the movies, going to an amusement park for the afternoon, going to see a concert, or spending time at the mall. City living is not for everyone though.

  24. Advan stages of such a massive city can come in different ways depending on where you live in the city. If you are in a close network of buildings and neighborhoods, you can either ride a bike or walk to work or school, comonities such as super markets and medical facilities could also be in running distance. However these are advantages for someone who has a good location, the disadvantages for someone who didn't get a too location, and the disadvantages of a big city are plenty. Overcrowding, rush hour, high crime rates, and unsanitary conditions plague a lot f big cities. Having a car is clad to useless in crowded streets such as new York, markets would take longer to get through because of the massive amount of people already there. Theft, robberys , and murder are very common in bigger cities, and especially gang activity.
Personally, bigger cities would prove to have too many disadvantages to even coincided going to.

  25. (I know this is really late.) Living in a larger city surely has its advantages. Can I think of any? No. I have never been nor ever will be a city-lovin' girl. I am country at heart; I wish with all my heart I was born and raised on a ranch in Henley. The work is worth it to me. Living in a small town is homely. I love the idea of being able to go to diner and know personally everyone in there. I love driving the back roads and living the small town life. Most teens in Klamath can't relate to me. I guess this place can feel like a fish bowl that traps its guppies in its death clutch until they are 18. I understand that better than anybody. But the idea of looking up at a skyscraper in the middle of New York and realizing there mare literally MILLIONS of people around you, is paralyzing. I hate people; why would I go to where there are so many you cant see the ground from a helicopter? Not everyone feels as I do however. People move from small towns to large cities for the exact reason i love living in small towns. Like i said in the obesity post, Americans are lazy. Farm work is "too hard" for people of this and the earlier generations. To answer your later question, no. I would never consider living in a big city. I just hate that lifestyle.
