Do you think that it is fair to you that age limits have been set for the use of tobacco?

  1. If the age limit was removed then lung cancer rates would go through the roof. What purpose would removing the age limit really serve. The age limit today is there for a reason and should stay. If we could do any thing it should be makeing the age limit higher.

  2. Yep, I do. For any substance that proves to be a serious risk to health, an age limit should be set. If we lift the age limit, then it would be possible for children, who as of yet haven't learned of what tabbaco can do to your health, to get ahold of these products, most for the wrong reasons entirely. We need the age limit set so we can give them the chance to fully understand what they are doing to their health before getting addicted to the substance. Aside from that, various lawsuits culd occur if they become addicted at an age before they were able to learn of the dangers.

  3. yes i do think it is fair cause with all to bad things that are in tabacoo it is bad for are contry. There would be more cases of lung cancer and more deaths in are contry. I think people today still smoke even if there not the age for tabacoo use but it isharder for them to get the tabacoo. I think they should actually raise the age limit to tabacoo to 21 cuse tabacoo is worse then drinking in my opinion.

  4. I agree with John, age limits are here so the children have a chance to learn what the risks are and why it is bad for you, otherwise children would start smoking just to follow their parents footsteps. (Though, most under-age smokers only started because it made then feel cool to break the law, but then they became addicted. But thats a topic for a different day.)

  5. yes,i do think that there should be an age limit for the use of tobacco because the younger that you start smoking the faster that you get addicted to it. Smoking may seem like its no big deal to you when you are young and doing it, but it will come back around in the future and get you!

  6. No no I think it should stay 18. I'm a smoker but I'm not old enough to actually legally buy my own cigarettes. 18 gives kids a chance to build an opinion on smoking and whether or not they want to do it.

  7. In my opinion I think the age limit should increase. People who smoke are just killing themselves and the people around them. It dosent benefit any one so why do it? If we dont have a age limit then more people would smoke causing more people to die. Smoking is a bad thing to do so why do it?

  8. Many people would argue the fact that any and all rules are not needed or fair. For me personally, I don't see the point to smoking other than the fact that it is addictive. Tobacco manufacturers are very clever. They target kis at a certain age to ensure their future addiction. I support the age laws on tobacco. If they weren't there many many many more young people will be addicted for life to these chemicals and further hurt our environment and lower U.S. life expectancy.

  9. In my opinion no one should be able to use tabacco! If we are so into kepping healthy why are we still smoking or chewing. Plus the age limit doesn't really matter because it effects everyone the same no matter how old they are.... Its a really gross habit anyways! I don't think anyone follows those kind of rules and why would they if they want to use tabacco. when have they ever!

  10. Age limits are necessary to know that smoking is harmful and that the government does not condone it. However, just like any other illegal substance people are going to find a way to get around it. Personally I don't smoke and wouldn't even if it was legal so i don't care too much. If anything smoking being illegal only lets people know that it isn't advised but it's not going to stop people from doing it.

  11. I think it is fair. Because I think smoking is gross and bad. Also the age limit isn't even that long. Its only to 18 years. So ya I guess its fair, it doesn't really matter to me.

  13. I believe that 18 is an appropriate age restriction for smoking. It gives people time to live their lives without it and take in different opinions from different viewpoints in their lives such as parents, teachers, friends, and of course the media. Although I do believe that everybody is born free and can choose how they want to live their lives, laws and restrictions are set to help us and should be respected as such. In the end it doesn't matter much, I don't smoke but I do know that people can and will smoke regardless of whether they can or can not purchase tobacco products from stores. Where there is a will, there is a way, and almost anybody who really wants tobacco products could get them if they wanted to. So In the end it's more of a personal choice decided by the individual at some point in their life whether to or to not smoke.

  14. Honestly, whether we have an age limit or not, people are going to smoke. I personally have friends that buy tobacco for people who are not yet old enough to buy it themselves. It does not matter if the age limit is changed to 50 or even 100. If people want to smoke, they will find a way to do it.

  15. in all honesty probabaly not but in my opinion i think that they are better for me or other kids around my age. Smoking is one of the if not the most dangerous things to do to your body and of somebody was to choose to do this they are risking it already. but another question is does the age limit really stop anybody from doing it anyway. smoking is bad for you and its not ever going to be a factor in my life but to answer the question i don't think this is fair for the people who would like to

  16. I believe that the age limit should stay how it is because of all of the deaths that smoking causes but even with the age limit where it is people are still going to be able to get chew or cigarettes if they really want it so you cant really ban it completely anyway.
    Alex Stork

  17. I Think tobacco in general should be banned. For one, it kills people, millions of people. And even if we do set an age limit and try to constrict the use of it, it doesnt mean that everyone follows those restrictions. In my opinion if we just get rid of tobacco we risk a major economical crisis because in all reality it is a cash crop, but we also rid ourselves of the evil that is tobacco use.

  18. I think it's fair to me because I don't smoke. It doesn't really matter what the age limit is because if someone wants something they can find a way to get it. Like the legal drinking age is 21 but teenagers still find a way to get it. So it doesn't really matter if it's fair or not, people are going to get it no matter what.

  19. I think the age limit is good. Kids under the age of eighteen aren't educated or responsible enough to make a decision that changes their lives. They might not realize that it is going to take years off of their lives. Most smokers are introduced at a young age already, so if they were allowed easier access, think of how many more people in the next generation would smoke, and how the life expectancy of the average American would plummet.

  20. I think that the age limit is fine. If we were to raise it or ban smoking completely, there would be a lot of angry people and it would probably make them want to smoke even more. The age limit doesn't always prevent people from obtaining chew - there are ways around it. I think it's best to educate kids and teens the risks of smoking and let them make the decision.

  21. I think once you are at the age of 14, 15, or 16 years old you should decide what you want to do with tobacco products. If i could have it my way i would ban smoking completely cause it doesnt just destroy your body but it has effects on other people around you where as chewing tobacco only harms yourself.

  22. I think that age limits are a good idea for the use of tabacco it being 18. At 18 you are considered an adult and cand live the life you want.If it involves doing damage to your self then so be it.Tabacco only causes health problems and young ones don't realize it until they get a little older and its to late. They get cancers, holes in their necks because they can't breathe proper, but anyway like i said at 18 you are free to do what you want.

  23. i belive that 18 is a good age to decide when you can buy tabacco products because alot of people don't realize all of the harmful effects untill they are older how ever the age rescrictions don't seam to prevent anyone under age from smoking considering the number of people that do in high school

  24. I think that 18 is an appropriate age to limit tobacco use, kids should learn all side of the issue before that age and should be wise enough to make their own choices. The age limit doesn't really affect smokers because it is easy enough to get tobacco anyways, but i think that lowering the age limit would definatly increase the addiction rate amoung younger people. i think it is fair and should remian the same.

  25. I think it's important to have an age limit. There are enough kids smoking now that don't fully understand, or care about the effects it has on themselves and others. They are under the impression it's the cool thing to do, and kids need to stop following the stupid trends. If there wasn't an age limit, the number would just increase. I don't think tobacco use should be legal at all, but since I can't change that, there definitely needs to be an age limit.

  26. I think that there should be an age limit for the use of tobacco products because smoking or chewing is a very addictive process. And also when you are young you are more seseptible to do these things due to pure pressure.

  27. I think there should be an age limit, I just don't think it should be 18. As a person grows up they realize sooner then the age 18 what cigarettes can lead to. I think they also realize that they are addicting because they probably know someone that does smoke. I believe that 16 should be the age limit because when you're sixteen you can drive. If you drive fast like a lot of new drivers do, you're risking your life because your not that experienced. It's the same as cigarettes your making a decision to risk your life.

  30. I think the age limit is good because it is preposterous to get a child addicted to a drug. Especially because drugs decrease you life span greatly. Thus they will die younger, and why? Because of some add they saw when they were children.

  31. The reason we have restrictions on things are because we are so young and still growing. We cant binge drink and smoke weed without becoming these high school dropouts with no plan for our lives(even though some dont drop out). If we didnt have restrictions, all of us would have a short life span. So i think is very good there are age limits on things so we can live a healthy long life

  32. I believe that putting an age limit on tobacco products is very neccesary-if we are going to choose as a nation to have 18 be the age for an adult, than we must be mature enough and trustworthy enough to give people of that age and above the opportunity to make their own decisions. I believe that the first eighteen years of your life should be made to educate you on the gravity of your decisions, then be able to choose what you should be able to do with your own life once you reach the legal age.

  33. Yes, I think it's very fair. We have laws for a reason, just like we rules with our parents. Many people don't understand why things are the way they are, or why people do cetain things. But just like the drinking age, as it is not safe at any age, is set to a cetain age (21) because your brain is growing till you're an adult. In thus, doing such things stunt your growth, and kill your brain cells.

Drinking does no good, unless you believe the statistics about drinking a glass of wine a day. But smoking isn't any better, but over time could be worse. Younger and younger kids are starting to smoke because they think it's the "in" thing to do. But it's sad how many people that act on impluse without truly knowing what the outcome could be in the future.

  35. I dont't smoke, so i think that anyone out there who smokes on a regular basis, especially if you are underage, is very stupid. There is no health benefit gained from smoking. It is a very harmfull habit. The laws have been made to benefit our youth. Kids don't always make the right decision. By this law being put in place, the U.S. has made it at least a little bit more difficult to get your hands on cigarrettes. They are making the smart decision for you, at least until you're 18.
I think that the law is completely fair.

  37. I think it is fair that there is an age limit. If not more people would be smoking. Younger people sometimes do not have enough judgement to tell that it is bad for you and it would depvelop a habbit. That is my opinion.

  38. I think that the age limit on tobacco is just right. If you're 18 years old and in charge of making your own decisions then you should be able to decide if you want to smoke or not.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think that its alright to have the age limit where it is at. If it is lowered then definitly more kids will get addicted at a young age. Its better to have it at 18 because by that time people can make the decision whether of not they are going to smoke.

  44. I very much so agree to them putting an age limit on tobacco, it is a serious health risk that kill a million people every year. But then again it wouldn't matter to me what the age limit was because I do NOT smoke I think it's pretty gross. But still kids who are under the age still get there tobacco somehow.

  45. I like the fact that there is an age limit on tobacco. It's here to protect our youth. Without the age limit younger and younger kids would start smoking and pass the habit to their friends. Their life spans would decrease also. Even though underage people still find a way to get tobacco and such, at least our government is attemping to put a stop to it.

  46. I do believe it is fair that age limits are set! Kids do always find ways to get their tobacco products but the kids who are much younger than in high school are less likely going to be involved in these activities because there is that age limit. A lot of people do follow the rules, and don't smoke or chew, or whatever until they are of the age- then do it ocasionally. if there wasn't a limit it would be nuts everywhere around the town and hanging out with peers. someone who didn't want to smoke would most likely be surrounded. I could go on about this...

  48. I think that it is fair that there is a age limint. If there were no age limit I think that there would be lots of young kids getting cancer all the time! Some teens get it by having 18 year olds buy it for them, if they get caught then thats thier fault, they get the consequences. The age limit of 18 is a good number because we really start to think about things more because we know what are the real consequences!

  49. i think the age limit on tabacco is a good thing. Mainly because of how bad it is for you. Tennagers have a lot of influence on eachother and if one person does it, a lot of people will follow. Putting an age limit on it limits the usage for young people bacause they dont want to break the law.
