Morality or Science

As we look at how science works and the advances we have made there have been a lot of lines that had to be crossed. Dissections are controversal for some and not for others. The plastification process where they take living organisms and make them into plastic models is one of the newer lines that have been crossed. Many people do not like this process and think it immoral. Look at the plastification process and give your opinion on if you think it is okay to do this. Explain your opinion for the full amount of extra credt.

  1. i believe that plastifacation is a great thing to do. i think it is a lot better than disection because after you disect something you tend to throw it away. which in the long run kills a lot more animals. if we do plastifacation than we can continuely re-use the animal for learning experience.

  2. I think that this plastic cover thing is a greatly dumb thing. Because I think that it is just not a way to have a science demo but having not a rest. Being a guy of the paranormal I have little trouble believing that if your body is not at rest then your sprite is not in rest or peace. Another thing is why is wrong on so many levels, just to me I'm not sure about others, I think it just a way of being mean to the person and even to the animals and other living being.

  3. I think it is perfectly fine to do this because it is basically a copy of an animal that you are going to disect. Students all over the country disect thousands of real animals every year. If they could make copies of these animals then it would save thousands of animals every year. The learning experience would be the same as a real animal anyways.

  4. I think plastification is a great way to learn more about organisms. There is only so much you can do with a dissection before the tissue starts to decay, but if you plastify it, you won't have that problem. Plastification also has the potential to pass along the knowledge to more people. The fetus exhibition at OMSI is an example of this. Large numbers of people view this display daily, and they learn about the development process in ways that they couldn't otherwise.

  5. plastification seems entirely necessary to progress the human position on hereme's theoretical spiral. People hunt, thus killing animals for no other reason than sport, so why pout at the idea of a few meager lives being sacrificed in the name of science? It seems irrational.

  6. i think that with plastification we could learn so much more about the organism that we are studying than with dissections. plastication would give us an unlimited amount of time to be able to learn about the organism and with dissections on the other hand, you only have a limited amount of time you can use the animals til you have to toss them out. i do not find this process immoral because i believe we are saving so many more organisms than we would be with dissections.

  7. After reading a little bit more about the plastification process at http://www.bodyworlds.com/en/plastination/plastination_process.html. I think that these plastic models are a great way to help highschool and college student study different animals, when they can not do disections. Many students that I know, including myself learn better when we can have something to touch and learn with.

Many people chose to donate their bodies to science. I feel if they or the family choses to do this then plastification is a terrific way for us to not only learn but visualize how the body works. It is like organ donation, some cultures believe that is immoral, and others see it as a way to save another life. I believe that plastification is an amazing way to learn. But we have to respect the deceased wishes and if they did not want their bodies used in science then it shouldn't be done. There are many who would say yes, so utilizing those people to further education is something I support.

Even though that many people do not like this process of plastification, they also need to realize that the bodies that they do it to are donated by choice, and they aren't just doing this to any random dead body, so i feel like its perfectly fine. It also helps us learn more about the human body. so i totally support it.

I don't think plastification is immoral. Like Shaydawn said the bodies are donated by choice. They are people who want their bodies used for science to make futher advances in medicine and other things. Without these people and also animals we wouldn't be as nearly advanced a culture as we are now. Because of the different dissection that people have been doing for forever we are extremely medically advanced which has saved millions of lives, and we have a tremendous amount of knowledge reguarding animals.

  11. Dissections and plastifications have allowed us to advance in medicine and expand our knowledge. If these things were never done, there would be plenty more deaths. We need science in order to survive and better the world. I don't feel that plastification is immoral. People make the choice to donate their bodies to scientific purposes. The animals we dissect are generally raised for the purpose of dissection. I am for dissections and plastifications.

  12. I don't think it is wrong. I think it's a person's choice what happens to them when they die. The dissections and farming things to be dissected can be unfair if you think about it but we are doing it for education. As far as plastification, its entirely a person's own choice i think.

  13. I don't think plastification is wrong. I believe it is a great way to see how the human body works. To have this knowledge is very beneficial.

  14. Animals and Science in general is my favorite class and subject. So for me watching animals die or get killed is really hard. Now I understand that sometimes the only way to conserve and protect animals is trought killing them so then we can dissect them for their study and conservation. But we dont have to kill millions of animals anually for that reason when we can use the method of plastification and use the animals over and over again without heaving to make of science classes a cementery of wild animals. 15. I DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH PLASTIFICATION IF YOU WANT TO DONATE YOU BODY TO SCIENCE THAT IS YOUR BUSINESS. I THINK THAT HAVING DISSECTIONS THAT WON'T DECOMPOSE ARE GREAT FOR EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT ANATOMY AND IT IS BETTER THAN HAVING TO DISECT A NEW ANIMAL EVERY TIME THERE IS A DISSECTION. IT ALSO LOOKS REALLY COOL.

  16. I believe this is a good thing to do to show the science of the human body. People need to see the way the body works beneath the skin and this is a perfect example of that. Plastification is not a big deal to me because its for our benefit of learning and will better our future intelligence.

  17. Plastification is a good thing in some cases. Its a good reusable way for us to learn more about the human body. The world needs some way to learn more about how the body works in every way possible.

  18. I think for the sake of science, morality needs to be blind. However, I am a bit oppossed to showing them to the public. Science is awesome in the lab and most people like it but when you bring it into the public for everyone to see there will be at least one person who won't let like it by some unlikely reason the whole program would get shut down. If they did this at perhaps a more private place but still be able to view to the public for those who want it, it would be better. I'm totally for plastification and I wouldn't mind getting that treatment after death.

I think that plastification is fine. It's used to learn, and it's not hurting anyone. I personally wouldn't donate my body for that purpose, but if people make that choice it's theirs to make and I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Whoever came up with the process was actually really smart, it's a good idea.

I believe plastification is a great way to learn because one animal dieing for science is better then a thousand. I hate the fact that we kill animals for no reason but its gunna happen and this way it saves some lives. I believe it is also better for dissections because plastic models last longer then real animals.

  21. I think plastification is fine, those people are the ones who say that they can use them, it'd be different if they didn't know and stuff. SoI think it's okay and that they shouldn't stop!

I think that plastification is good because it has allowed people to save money on disections and it prevents having someone get something in their eye or get sick from a disection.

  23. I would say the plastification process is very important for many learning opportunities. Like many others said, it's not like they just pick some random person, you get a chance to decide if you want to donate your body or not so for the people who believe it's immoral they can just choose not to donate their body. We can learn a lot from this process so I think it is a great thing.

  24. I think plastification process is great for the future to help learn more about animals and humans. And it's not like they just pick random people the person has the oppurtunity to donate their body. Also the body will not decay so they don't have to kill as many animals for disections.

  25. It is not immoral, it's for science. Doing things like this help advancements in medicine and our understanding of the human body and its not like they are actually killing people, the people are already dead. They are just conserving them.

  26. I think that the plastification process is a great scientific advancement. It gives them unlimited time to work with the cadavers. I have personally viewed a cadaver for school purposes and i learned so much from that experience that i couldn't have learned from looking at models or reading books. I do not think that it is immoral because the people knew what they were doing, they did it to help science and donated their bodys. And there are a lot of privacy and moral rules you have to be informed of in order to see one. So in short, i think it is a great thing.

  27. It is not right if they did not consent to it before they died. I mean if they consented to it in my mind that is the same thing as being an organ donor. It might be wrong for some, but I think if the person is fine with it then it is their choice.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think it's immoral if the body that is being used for science agreed to be used. To me it's just like being an organ donor. it's kind of cool what we can do with science and after you are dead what will you feel? how is immoral if the person being used has agreed to be part of science?

In my opinion plastification is disgusting, but will be a lot of help in the future. It will help people to understand things about the human and help us keep more animals alive. It would be immoral if the person didn't want to have plastification done. But it's their bodies so they have that choice. I do think it is immoral when they breed animals for plastification, because the animal doesn't have a choice.

  30. I do not believe this is immoral what-so-ever. Seeing these in person in Las Vegas at the Luxor, I was able to witness and see first hand the parts of the human body and what they actually look like. It gives a much longer period of time to study a cadaver before it expires, which can give an insurmountable amount of knowledge to the scientists studying it, or even the public viewing certain parts with curiosity of how they work.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I believe that were lucky to be able to view the human body in this way. It shows us things that we would normally never get to see. I understand why people think tha tit may be a privacy issue or why they think that it may be immoral, but I believe that if people choose to donate their body to science then they know what their doing. And I believe that we should keep going forth in our advancements in science because we'll be able to learn so much and advance in ways that can help people.

  36. having human organs be turned into plastic is not very good because we could preserve them then use them to save other people.
