Risk is a huge factor as you consider health. What extremes would you go to as you consider your health? What factors would make you change the amount of risk that you would take?

49 comments:

  1. In the process of helping/ saving a family member or friend, I cannot think of any limiting factors regarding risk to my health. In less extreme cases, I don't allow myself to get into situations were I may be negatively affected.
Pertaining to avoiding health risks: I would avoid any and all heights over four feet, tie myself to a heavy object with a rope when i went swiming, never set foot in a bar or liquor store, and learn to defend myself.
pertaining to ignoring health risks: I would like to Paraglide beside a mountain, go scuba diving in the ocean, swim cageless with sharks, bare knuckle fight, wrestle, run, and climb a tree.
If someone I love is a factor in any fixable situation then I will disregard almost all risks to my health.

  2. Involving my family and close friends, I will definetly take twice as many risks then usual, because i know they would do that for me. I do have a number of risks i would like to take in my life time such as sky dive, cliff dive, travel a lot, and make something of myself, but as a parent i dont plan on doing most of them because i know what could happen. I dont want to put myself at risk and possibly have my son grow up with no parents. That would be selfish. I will take many risks in my life, just like the many i have already taken. but i will be more cautious.

  3. Taking a risk is something you have to do in life. Getting in a car to drive to school in the morning is, statistically, taking a risk. If I want to do something that I think I would enjoy then I'm going to do it. I don't think I would enjoy something that would put me at an extremely high risk, but if it's just sky diving or bungee jumping then I would be fine. Sometimes there are factors that can change your limit on what you will do. These factors could be related to possibly winning money or trying to impress somebody or maybe even trying to save another person for something. That is where I stand on taking health risks.

  4. Considering I don't take huge risks everyday, and my risks are limited to the every day risks (like driving, leaving my house every day, ect) I'm going to have to speak as an outsider thus far. I feel that risks are a part of living. You gave an example in class today of someone selling their snowboard because they had a family. To me, that isn't living. Having children doesn't mean you should give up doing what you love. You should keep living life and doing what makes you happy, because if it is a positive thing (like snowboarding) it will give a desire your children to live a passionate, fulfilling life as well. I am willing to take risks if it means I will give others fire in their blood to live their lives as fully as they can as well.

  5. I really don't take risks unless if I have to. I usually try to eat healthy to, but drinking soda is out of the question. I think taking the least risks are better than having the most fun. There are a billion ways to die and even though I drive everyday I know the risks, but have to take it because its necessary so I can have a good education. I think if it means you will survive and give the people around you something to smile about when they see you, you shouldn't try the risk.

  6. I dont really take really big risks anyday. I dont really like taking really any risks. But i would take a risk as in climbing up Mount Everest or like do a surgry thats needed. But other than that I dont really think its that neccessary to take any huge health risks.

  7. i do take some risks everynow and then. I usually think them through though. the most i usually get is minor cuts and scrapes. If it were like climbing a huge building i wouldnt do it but the ones around here are fine, to me, to climb. The factors would be mainly height. im afraid of heights so if its really tall and unstable probably wont be getting near it, other than that id be fine.

  8. To some degree I take a risk everyday whether I plan to or not. Driving to school has risk to it. Being around people is a risk because I could catch a disease or flu. While I don't do crazy things like jump off a cliff or swim with sharks, I'm not going to put myself in an underground shelter just so I can be safe. I will be cautious to stay out of risk that I can control, but there is only so much that I can do without staying in my house forever.

  9. I like to take risk but not when it's something totally dangerous. I would risk anything for a family member especially my son. there are so many things i would love to do that would involve risk that i wouldn't be willing to take, i wouldn't be willing to take any kind of risk that would involve my son losing me. It's hard because as a young person it's nice to dream of doing crazy things like sky diving and bungy jumping but i have to think of my son first. Maybe one day ill do crazy fun things but not today. I think the biggest "risk" i would be willing to take is fly in a plane, not very daring but oh well.

  10. I am a risk taker but not to the point where its threatning in any way.usually when I take a risk I don't tend to think it through until the last second so its more of a risk without taking risks how can you live a life cuz in my opinion lifes all about risks no matter what you do.

  12. I tend to take more risks than I should. I have a bad case of the "I'm invincible's" But with risk usually comes consequence. I find myself with bumps, bruises, scrapes, cuts, and injuries all the time, but that hasn't been enough to stop me yet. When Mr.Olsen told his stories and how he stopped when he got married, that makes sense. But I don't have anything like that to worry about yet, so until then I'll keep taking risks.

  16. Taking risks is part of everyday life! Involving friends and family I would most likely take more risks than I would alone. Health as in all around physical and emotional I would just live life day by day and take whatever comes my way. Eating ways I will continue to eat well as I am now but I'll still have my occasional garbage food.

  17. I tend to do things that I think would be adventurous or exciting whether they are risky or not. I don't go the extreme route for everything but I think you get so much experience if you take risks in life. I would take risks for my or my families health if needed in a heartbeat.

  18. I don't take many risks and I think risks I take with health is not eating right sometimes and not sleeping right but that really is not a risk and what would change how extreme my risks are would be drugs That made me delusional to take lots of risks

  19. I think taking risk is in everyones nature, if its not then I'm going to say your pretty dull because when your not doing exciting things your not living. Taking risks is an adrenaline rush because you don't know the outcome. you need to be healthy to take on the adventures of life so watching what you eat so you don't get sick should be a priority

  20. I think taking risks is apart of life. Some people like the adrenalin that it gives you. I thinking that taking a risk emotionally or physically could alter your health in some way. When I want to take a risk I want to do something new, something that's exciting. So taking risks is a part of human nature, you just have to find the risks that won't hurt you in the long run.

  21. If there is a large chance of death, most likely I wont try to do the activity, but if it would help someone else I would probably do it. Trying to do something extremely risky with no benefits there is no real point in doing it so why risk your life? Some risks are needed to be taken but not to the extent of a deadly result.

I dont think I would risk much when it comes to my life, I think that it is pointless to risk your life just to say that you were able to do something. I think most people take risks for the feeling while doing it. I dont think I would take risks if people were pressuring me though, I would rather make the decision on my own.

  23. When it comes to the extremes that i would take when it comes to my health, I'd have to say, personally, that i would always try my best to stay physically fit, or at least to the point where i don't hit obesity because not to offend anyone, it'd probably suck (as i imagine.) One thing that I'd be sure to do is, provided it gets bad enough i would go to the extreme to try and get my weight lowered to the requirement which is needed so i would not be classified as obese. The only reason i would go to an extreme such as this one is because i wouldn't want to miss out on seeing my future kids grow up. Obesity, you can very well die from. However, if i wanted to loose weight i would be sure that i wouldn't starve myself, become a bulimic, or go threw other stupid ways to loose the wight.

  24. Taking risks is what life is all about. If you think about it walking outside is taking a risk. You're taking the risk of being open and vulnerable. A car could hit you, lightning could strike you, or an animal could attack you. Though the chances of any of those happening are slim they're still possible, so why not push the limits? If this life is all we have then why not measure how fullfilled our life was by what we did and the risks we took to get there instead of how many years we lived?

  25. I would go to the extreme for my health. If you don't have good health then ypu will die. Being healthy is very important to me. I plan on living a long and fulfilled life. Life is all about taking risks. I would rather take a risk rather than have what if thoughts

  26. I would probably take almost any risk. I wouldn't take any risk if it put my family friends or myself in any danger. If it was to help my family or friends then I wld take any risk to save them. Other than that I wouldn't do it unless there was no serious danger involved.

  27. Risks are amazing. Life is all about having a good fulfilling time and risks go hand in hand with that. When it comes to risks like; skdiving, swimming with sharks or any other adrenaline pumping experiences, I am all for it! Yeah, there is the possibility that you could get hurt or even die, but hey at least you'll die doing something awesome. You can't live your life in a bubble, and fatality could strike at any given moment, so just have fun with your life. It's the only one you've got.

  28. I think that risk happens every moment of everyday. I take risks everyday, but so does everybody else. I think the most common health one I do is come home and breathe in cigarette smoke. The only thing I can do to change that is air-flow. That's about it because I can't tell them to get out when they smoke.

  29. The extremes I would go to risking my health would depend on how much fun I would be having. Level of fun definitely plays a large role in the amount of risks I take. I'm not going to take a risk that could jeopardize my life it's not at least going to be a little fun.

  30. I would only jeopardize my health if I was doing something fun or worth it. If it was something dangerous that I wanted to do before I die; skydiving, swimming with sharks, ect., than to me it's worth the risk.

  31. You could die at any moment from random things that you can't control. risk taking is a part of life. People don't usually take big risks unless they get something out of it. I will go to extremes endangering myself as long as I think I have a better chance at surviving. If your not willing to put your health in danger, then you don't really need to be healthy in the first place.

  32. We take risk everyday whether we're aware of it or not. Taking risk means anything from sitting to a sick person, cheating on a test, walking across the road, driving, and a lot of other things we may not realize. With all honesty, I don't think I'm much aware of all the risks I have taken because if i was awared, then I probably wouldn't take it. As far as it has to do with health risk, I would do anything to maintain healthy regardless of how risky it might be. Some factors might change my decision would be family and friends. I wouldn't want to risk any chance in harming the people I care about. I would reconsider the the amount of risk I would take.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Everyday getting up is a risk, going out of your house is a risk, walking on the sidewalk can be a risk. I think everyone is so used to being "invincible" at our age we dont think about it. I think the extremes we go to are for the thrill, or the adrenaline. The factors that can change your risk is different for each person. If a person has had something go badly they are gonna be more cautious as to what they do in that sort of nature.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Risks are an essential part of life, there is no way to avoid them. It's a matter of whether or not a risk is worth it to you. You have to weigh the benefits against the downfalls. I like to take risks as long as they don't affect my health greatly. I'm not afraid to die, it's going to happen some day and I may as well have fun in the meantime, if I die doing something crazy like sky diving at least it was interesting. I say this having no huge commitment such as children or a spouse, my views could change once that happens but until then this is how I feel about risks.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Life could be considered one big giant risk. If one lives their life being scared to do anything because of the "risks" involved, then life would be pretty boring... their are situations that involve knowing that you are in a life threatening situation (like cliff diving), or a number of other things that people can decide if it is worth losing their life. Often times, once people start a family they will step back from such risky activities..

    ReplyDelete
  36. Life is a risk. Every morning you wake up there is a risk, when you get in the car, go outside, or just out walking. Some things pose a greater risk on your life depending on what you do. If you go sky diving or on a dangerous adventure you put your life in that much greater risk. How you take the risk will depend on what happens, I wouldn't say never take risks but take wise ones that you know won't decide your future for you.

  37. I enjoy taking risks the main thing that I consider is the people around me. I wouldn’t want to do anything that would have a negative effect on my family, and friends I have a lot of people who want me to succeed but to do that I need to take care of myself. Certain risks are worth taking they just need to be the right ones. Sage Daley Period 3

  47. Everyone takes risks in their life of course, but some more than others. I am not willing to jump off a bridge or fall out a window because I don't have the desire to lose a lifetime of happiness and adventure. But I am willing to hang out with my brothers and expose myself to second hand smoke. I believe that this all comes down to the persons desires and wants.

  48. I think there are definitely different kinds of risks and some people may see different kinds of risks in various ways. We take risks every day, by even leaving the house and driving to school. I would never jump off a cliff or walk over fire because I think it's too risky. Others may think skiing is risky, or riding horses. I don't think those are risky.
