Eat or not to Eat; That is the Question

As pertaining to the video Food Inc. has your view of the foods you eat changed? How so or why not?

52 comments:

  1. In my opinion the movie changed my view on how they treated the animals but it didn't affect me in a way that I'd change my eating habits because of it. I didn't know how badly they treated the chickens and cows and how most of them couldn't even walk just because of the way they were bred. It disappointed me that most of the chicken farmers wouldn't even show their indoor coops because of how bad they were.

  2. What the video did was inform me on how terrible the animals are treated, but its not going to change my eating habits. There is nothing anybody can do to change these terrible conditions, so why think about it and change your eating enjoyments over it. But the animal is going to die anyways so its not such a big deal to me how they are treated. There is no good way to kill an animal, so if you enjoy meat then eat it and be worry free about it.

  3. The video did not change my way of eating. However, I could not believe how badly the chickens and cows were treated. I mean, they are all going to end up dying anyways, but why should people be allowed to just abuse them? All of the chickens were just thrown and kicked around, not to mention the chickens could barely walk because of how fat and unhealthy they were, and the cows were getting hit by tractors just so that they would move to another location.

I think this movie has definitely changed my view on what we eat every day. I not going to change my eating habits over a movie. You just have to be aware of what your eating because it could make you very sick. Knowing this has nothing to do with the question but I think the movie showed more awareness about how cruel people are to these animals.

The video didn't change my eating habits but it does make me think about what i'm eating when i'm eating it. It is hard to believe that are food is being processed the way it is and that there are minimal people trying to make it better. I believe we need to grow our plants and animals naturaly in nature, not all cooped up in a chicken house or coup.

Freshman year we had to read The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollen, a speaker in this video, and since then my views on eating have been changed and the video only strengthened that. Not only are the animals we are eating being treated worse than poorly, they are incredibly unhealthy for us. Meat might taste good, but I think we should consider what we're putting into our bodies and what kind of treatment we are supporting and maybe find a healthier alternative.

I think that this video has definetally opened my eyes to the crisis we have in the food industry, but I do not think that it has permanently changed my eating habits as a whole. I do believe that something should be done to change the way they do business, but eventually I will eat Burger King and enjoy a burger. It cannot be done all the time, as I would be 400 pounds, but in moderation there is almost no harm.

  8. it has definantly made me think more about the foods that i eat but it hasnt really changed anything. I think it is gross and that somebody needs to change the way they are doing things. But in the mean time i have been eating these things for years and i still have a belly to food. it will in the long run keep me from going to fast food restraunts as much.

  9. In a way, it's hard not to take this video into consideration because you do get an inside look on what people do to process your food. I've never really looked into what I've eaten and how it came about, usually it's a thoughtless matter. It's hard to put down the food though because it's fast and convient and not everyone has the time to cook a full meal making sure that's it's healthy for you. Video's like that will change the way some people eat, but as a whole it's almost impossible to have a large sum of people change there ways and become more healthy, to me it's almost like smoking because people have advertisements of non-smoking ads, but it rarely effects people because they're addicted.

  10. The video did make me seriously think about what i eat.. But there no point in changing it if the food we consume is still going to be messed with, no one is stopping it so they'll keep on doing it and there is no point to change my diet now. But i will say i wont eat at Mcdonalds anymore its Disgusting!!

  11. My view of food has been the same for many years and i have known about all the stuff that happens to it. My family has been very picky with the foods we eat and only chooses things that are as fresh as possible. For example instead of buying meat in the store we buy meat from local butcher shops and farmers markets, this is healthier, tastes better, and supports the local agriculture industry and economy. Another reason i dislike these huge companies controlling the food industry is that it puts all the ranches and farms that produce good quality product out of most of the business in the nation and has made it hard to make money in the farming and ranching industry. No Farms No Quality food.

  12. After watchich videos such as Supersize me and Food Inc I am really considering quitting fast food restaurants out of my diet. It seems that what we eat now on this days is no longer food but corn based with hormones and changed genetics. VICTOR RIOS

  13. the animals in this video were treated very poorly, but part of it is just that times have changed and that's the way things are done now. Im not saying that its right, but i dont think there is a lot that we can do about it. And even if we could change it, would it really be worth it. It costs more to buy organic things and more to grow and produce them and the economy isnt exactly in favor of that right now

  14. I've seen this video before and I have to say that it truly is schocking how poorly the animals are treated in the industry. It has changed how I think about the food industry in America, although I still enjoy eating meat. I just find it sad that when I do eat meat, the odds are pretty high that the animal was mistreated or abused.

No, it really hasn't. I understand the problem but it seems that it would be quite difficult to change our habits of eating(not just the fast food problems). If we want to get rid of all the bad stuff what would we be left with? I guess you could name a few things but we like diversity. However, I do believe we should try to change this as a whole but not as an individual. I once read a study that was about trying to save money while shopping by doing all the math in their head ended up losing more money than a person who doesn't try. I'd like to think we should apply this somewhat to this. Unless you just bought vegetables and fruits(in which this would be void) it would be very hard. So perhaps hypothetically "round up" when looking for better food.

Personally “Food Inc.“ does for supermarkets what "Jaws" did for the beach. I remember being ten years old and promising myself I’ll never swim in the ocean; today I find myself questioning anything I’d like to eat. “Food Inc." is a civilized horror movie for the socially conscious and the nutritionally curious.
The thought of food becoming even more unhealthy because some fat ass executive wants to make a quick buck infuriates me. Why do we allow companies who value profit margins more than the health and overall safety of the American people to continue poisoning us? When administrations such as the FDA are essentially tools for the corporate giants of agriculture how can we trust them to do what’s in our best interest?
Setting aside my abhorrence "Food, Inc." does not predict some doomsday scenario. People can make a difference, it says: “After all, look what happened to Big Tobacco”

  17. Although the movie disgusted me, it didn't really change my eating habits. The thing that got me most in the movie was how hard the meat industry tries to make themselves look good even though what the are doing is terrible, and they know it. If they didn'tknow their industry was bad, they wouldn't have refused to be interviewed for the video. I was surprised to see how cruel they are to the animals, and the things that they do to make it "edible" by genetically enhancing chickens to be larger, and the way they cure hamburger in ammonia.

  18. Well, to be honest, no. I understand the video and all the harsh and unhealthy treatment done to our food, and yeah, it's disgusting. But it seems that the vast majority of food offered to us, regardless if it's from McDonald's or Walmart, is connected to this industry. It's hard to know exactly what to eat and who you're supporting. I think as the consumer becomes more aware, changes can be made. But for right now, they're the ones with power and it's hard to make that change.

The video did not change the way I eat, having multiple friends work in fast food and knowing what goes into it, yet not changing their eating habits really gives me an "oh well" feeling towards it; What did open my eyes was the treatment of the animals, I assumed it was bad but nothing like what the video showed.

The video definitely grossed me out but it didn't really change the way I eat. I was horrified by the way the chickens and cows were treated, not fair at all. Not to mention how they kill bacteria in meat and how fast food chicken is really hardly chicken at all. As much as the video made me question my eating habits, it didn't change them.

  21. I think the video was extremely well researched and put together, however I think they focused on so many negative issues that they forgot to come out with a solution besides to not eat the product. In a place like Klamath Falls the resources to eat like they suggest (only organic fresh foods that you know are secure from any bacteria) is nearly impossible. The reason these businesses strive is because the "organic" food is much harder to maintain, its more expensive, and its much harder to find, and in a smaller town or city maintaining expensive food product (especially in these times) seems ridiculous. Did I learn things from the movie? Of course, however did they change my mind about the food I eat? They made me think about whats in my food but I can not say that the movie has changed my life style.

  22. Yes because some food could come with a disease that can cause people to get infected and die if you choose the wrong thing.

The video did gross me out, but didnt make me change my mind about what I eat daily, I dont think the cows and chickens should of been treated badly though. I believe at times we do have to have to be careful with the meats we eat because we can get ill.

  24. I would definatly have to say it changed my view on food and humans. The food we eat needs to be safe and shouldnt come from animal cruelty, not to mention the harm that has come to humans as well. To think that we live in an environment with such cruel people is horrible! I will make sure to make better choices in food and when cooking it.

  25. This movie did change my view on food. It isn't changing my eating habits though because I am already a vegetarian. I think that when were eating we need to be cautious about the food. The food we eat needs to be safe for us and the animals shouldn't be treated the way they are just so we can eat lunch.

After watching this video I have thought of taking fast food out of my diet. It is pretty gross how they treat the animals and then thats from were our food comes from...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Although that movie was delightfully disgusting. I would have eaten a hamburger while Watching it if I could. No matter how many people complain about How "gross" the food system and packaging plants arethats how it is. If you can think of a more efficient way of provide food for millions of people then go for it. Until then shut up and eat some meat hippie!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have always noticed a difference between meat that you would find in a store and food that you would find locally, now I see why,the way that they treat the animals and breed them is disgusting, while I understand that that is the most efficient way I think that there would be many more ways that wouldn't be disgusting. I personally would rather have less to eat and something that tasted better rather than having a mass amount of food that I would have to worry about what might be in it, 90 percent of which will go to waste any ways.
While the video was disgusting, I would rather know what is in my food rather than being completely in the dark about it.

  29. My family gets meat from local farms, not from frozen bags at Walmart. At Prather ranch they feed their cows healthy food and keep them in good living conditions, so i don't worry about my meat a lot. I do think twice about having fast food now though, I don't know about you but I don't like my food to be handled and treated so poorly.

The video did make me think about what we put into our bodies and where it comes from, but being that everything we consume has been somehow changed there is not really much we can do about it, especially now. We just have to be cautious at where we eat such as fast food restaurants.

    ReplyDelete
  31. In my opinion it didn't I'm not just gonna stop eating the foods that I like. But all that stuff is always on my mind when I am eating those certain types of food. It also made me realize how gross the food kinda is if you think about all the processing that they do in order to get it to what we "like". But oh well I guess. Gotta eat something!

  32. The video did not change my eating ways because I am already a vegetarian. It made me sad for the animals though. I am not a vegetarian because I think it is horribly wrong to kill animals. I am one because I don't like the taste, it makes me sick. I would think it would change someones eating habits. It's disgusting to think about how we don't know what we are exactly eating.

  33. I think it is horrible how animals are treated in the factories and farms. It is really sad that the chicken are just kicked around and not treat well. It has made me think about my eating habits. I was a vegetarian in the past for awhile. Videos like these make me think that we shouldn't be eating meat.

  35. After i watched the movie it really didnt change my ways of eating but it did change the way i look at animals and how they are treated and how poorly the people on the movie treated them and that just makes me kind of upset about that because the kind of like go and hit them with a fork cliffet just because they are to weak to walk and how they are over fed just to fatten them up so they can be buchured thats jusr wrong!!!!!! they are living things too so show some respect tward them!!

  36. my view on food hasn't changed because i probably had more fast food then i ever have after watching that movie..which was probably very bad. But i don't feel like im going to die from meat anytime soon. I have confidence that people know better then to take rotten meat and give it to a lot of people.

    ReplyDelete
  37. my opinion on the video is that the way the animals are treated and harvested are a direct result of our fat nation. My eating of foods has not changed due to the fact that i eat alot more local grown foods than processd meat. I come from a farm/ranch family and believe that what is needed can can be grown or raised yourself vs. buying a sick weakend subject. I think that we will see a growth in the science that makes the food grow faster and will become less and less natural as we progress.

  38. After watching th video, my opinion on food hasn't changed. It still taste good to me, and also if you cook well enough then you wont get sick, right? And also, I eat healthier foods to start with. I think from watching this, most peoples views will change, making it so people will stop buyig those products and buying better ones.

  39. my perception of food has changed soooo much. like i strongly encourage my parents to buy from local meat places now. just thinking about the amount of things that go into my food that i dont know of kinda freaks me out. i think the economy would change a little bit if everyone watched this movie becuase its a good insight to what EXACTLY is going into our bodies.

    ReplyDelete
  40. My view on food has always been the same. I prefer not to eat meat because I don't enjoy the taste of it, but also because of everything that they put animals through just so they can feed a large portion of greedy America. There are so many things that go into food that nobody is aware of and they should be. People should know what they're eating because they should know where it came from and whether or not any animals had to be tortured or cultures had to be grown in a lab just to serve them a burger. Our opions need to change and we need to support the well being of all animals whether or not it will drastically change the economy.

yes, watching Food inc. has changed my view of the food that I eat. Especially because of how the animals are treated. Its ridiculous that chickens must live in terrbile conditions like being packed so tightly together and living in the dark. Plus the way the men treat them when they come to pick them up is completely ridiculous. Then, how cow farmers are causing the cows to have tummy problems because they make them eat corn when cows are meant to eat grass.

My view about the way we eat changed after watching the movie, but I still think it's really hard to stop eating those kind of foods, because they are every where, and sometimes we don't even know where the food is coming from and how they are treated. So I think it's a good choice, so we can start eating healthier, is know the information about the food you are eating.

  44. In a way, this made my decisions very insecure about what I'm eating. It's very sad how these animals are treated and what happens to them, but there is nothing we can do about it. It's a terrible thing. This doesn't what so ever change my eating habits. It just makes me think how sad this is for this type of thing to happen.
